Everyphone Everywhere

全個世界都有電話

Around the time Hong Kong was handed over to China, three schoolmates, Chung, his girlfriend Ana, and best friend Raymond, record messages on their mobile phones to act like time capsules and promise to reunite in the future. 20+ years on and Chung, an egotistical designer on the make, Ana, a woman unhappily married to a slimy accountant, and Raymond, a dodgy sales rep, find their lives may not have turned out as hoped and their new phones dominate their days…

In what some might consider a nightmare vision of telecommunications tainting human relations, Amos WHY’s knowingly-cynical and lively film deploys smartphones to deftly bring phone-dependent characters crashing together for amusing results. As he deftly crosscuts between their phone-based social faux pas and dilemmas, Hong Kong’s rich culture and economic issues are brought to the fore. [Jason MAHER]
