A Malaysian banker living in Singapore is beginning to feel the years slip by and takes on a series of blind dates as a result. If the first three finance-minded candidates don’t quite work, the fourth man winds up being a surprise not least because he is a butcher by trade.

In watching her dating disasters director TAY evokes comedy and the ageist/sexist double-standards of dating. Underlying this is the anxiety of the realisation of the approach of middle age, not least through some alarming pig-based metaphorical imagery! Don’t worry, a gentle atmosphere of easygoing relationships and the sights of Singapore add a warmth and the characters are fun to be around as they learn to relax. [Jason MAHER]
