Supposed

Noom is an office worker who lives comfortably in Bangkok. His days seem packed with incidents and people but his interior life, which is spent online posting cool photos of Bangkok on social media, suggests he yearns for something more. That something comes in the form of one follower, a woman named “Dear,” who replies to his pictures. Intrigued, he visits her Instagram and senses she is a kindred spirit. Despite the fact she remains an enigma online, only revealing a part of her body and face, he takes a chance by going out on a date with her. They hit it off immediately but “Dear” refuses to show more than her online persona, which frustrates Noom…

Supposed traces the romantic feelings between a couple who dance across lines of fiction and reality, the safety of online anonymity and the pain of real-world vulnerability. It is a stylishly shot film that uses addiction to tech and social media to present an anti-romance that speaks of the loneliness of modern-day people.

Director PONGSUWAN had finished editing the first draft of Supposed before passing away of cancer in 2020. [Jason MAHER]
