日本初上映 Japan Premiere
Adam WONG follows his films The Way We Dance (2013, OAFF 2014) and The Way We Keep Dancing (2021, OAFF 2021) with another film about self-expression.

We follow three 20-something deaf people trying to integrate into society in their own ways: Wolf, an aspiring deep sea diver, was born into a deaf family and proudly embraces sign language; Alan, his childhood friend, has a cochlear implant and supports speaking and signing; Sophie, who also has an implant, communicates by oral language for her finance job. Their relationship with each other and their sense of identity evolves as they grapple with prejudice and ignorance, love and a longing for acceptance.

The Way We Talk uses a story of friendship to show deaf identity and its intricacies. Made with the help of the deaf community, it has innovative sound design and convincing performances from its cast, including hearing actors Neo YAU and CHUNG Suet-Ying who took Best Leading Actress at the Golden Horse Awards 2024.
