Nafisa is a Uyghur woman who lives and works in Tokyo as an assistant director. Life is steady with her live-in Japanese boyfriend, Hirosawa, a cinematographer. He increasingly pushes for them to get married but Naifsa defers answering, content to keep things as they are. Fate, however, pushes her to make a decision when her mother calls with news that her beloved grandfather has fallen ill and reveals that they are worried about her marriage prospects. Writer/director OSAKO Muki skillfully approaches themes of cultural, religious, and ethnic differences through Nafisa’s increasingly conflicted feelings and actions. How she overcomes these tensions is captured in a thematically clever and beautifully shot resolution.
