Hansel is a teenage girl whose world runs on positive affirmations, frequent bathroom breaks, and avoiding interacting with others. These routines help the shy girl cope with adolescent anxieties but they may not be enough to save her from humiliation in a music class as she discovers that she has left her recorder at home. With her stern teacher certain to punish her and make her sing in front of everyone, Han-seul takes extraordinary measures to recover the instrument but maybe being in the limelight might be what she needs to express herself…
Director LIM Ji-sun’s oddball coming-of-age story conveys summertime vibes and slightly kooky humour with its crisp visual style and winning performances. It netted her Best Director in the Korean Shorts Competition at the 25th Jeonju International Film Festival.
