Seven years on from Village Rocksters, Rima DAS revisits its lead, Dhunu. Now 17, she still lives with her ageing and now ailing mother whose hard physical labour supports Dhunu and her elder brother. While her brother pesters their mother for money, Dhunu is in possession of a guitar and performs with a local band. Meanwhile, a school essay asks her to think about the world around her and her future goals.
This is the starting point for a coming-of-age tale, a greater exploration of Dhunu’s world, from the environment, to the misogyny, to the need to make money, and her navigating mortality. Captured with poetic visuals and naturalistic performances, it is another exquisite slice of Assam from Rima DAS.
