How to Make Millions before Grandma Dies
Lahn Mah
After Mengju is diagnosed with stomach cancer, her grandson M, a university dropout still living at home, moves in with her as a carer. This is less an act of filial piety and more a cynical way of making millions by currying favour to net an inheritance ahead of Mengju’s money-grubbing adult kids. Mengju, aware of his scheme, puts M through his paces and they gradually bond. As family fractures are laid bare over financial dramas, M learns of his grandmother’s past and begins to understand just why her dream is to be buried in a big plot for her family to visit.
The story will resonate with themes of families, legacies, and reconciliation, and a winning performance by 78-year-old Usha Seamkhum who makes her film acting debut in this dramedy which became a social media sensation in Thailand due to people recording videos of themselves crying after the film.
