In modern-day Taipei, four souls seek solace, self-actualisation, and connection in sex. They are a single-father whose romance writer dreams belie his broken family, an heiress who temporarily escapes the ties of an arranged marriage to a gay man via the art of BDSM and kinbaku sessions which are orchestrated by her lonesome dom, a working-class guy from Hong Kong who pines for his absent partner, and Lu, a trans police woman seeking nirvana through orgasm while haunted by an incomplete sense of womanhood.


Writer/director YANG Ya-che’s visually elaborate erotic drama was a box-office hit and cause for controversy due to explicit scenes of sex and nudity but it is firstly a slice-of-life drama detailing the pains of identities, intimacies and searching for love across genders and sexualities. Messy relationships abound as characters’ paths converge in climaxes shot across Taipei’s sex scene.
